LORIS provided design services for the Highline Canal Trail underpass beneath Chambers Road. The underpass itself was constructed in 1984 when Chambers Road was widened to 6 lanes with sidewalks and a raised median. But construction funds were insufficient to construct the necessary approach retaining walls. Consequently, bulk heads were installed at the ends of the underpass, and it was backfilled until the approaches could be constructed at some future date. As it turns out, the underpass would have to wait 26 years for the approach walls to be completed. This project won the 2012 APWA Bridge/Culvert Design/Construction/Maintenance Large Project of the Year Award.
