LORIS worked with landscape architects from Design Workshop to complete civil, structural, lighting, and mechanical engineering for this downtown pedestrian improvement project. The main goal for this 23-block area was to render the sidewalk more pedestrian friendly by providing additional facilities for walking, sitting, and window shopping without affecting the area’s parking spaces – no net gain or loss of parking spaces. The width of the sidewalks was widened from 6 feet to 10 feet in most places by converting the nose-end parking design to parallel parking.
