LORIS’ job for this project was to design a bridge that would “get people out of their cars to park and play…” This was the City’s vision for this gateway to Golden’s downtown section along Clear Creek. Working with TST, Inc. and the other project team members, LORIS brainstormed ideas and created a theme that captured Golden’s mining heritage, suspended in time within the latticed “miner’s towers” from which stay cables support semi-circular shaped pedestrian plazas. This project earned three awards: 2003 Gold Hard Hat, Heavy/Highway, Silver (Colorado Construction News), 2003 APWA Community Award, and a 2004 ACEC Engineering Excellence Award.
