About Dan
Dan has more than 17 years of experience in bridge and civil engineering design. He leads LORIS’ in-house design team for vehicular and pedestrian bridge projects, retaining walls and other site structures, and building designs. Dan has considerable experience with cast-in-place and precast concrete, steel, cable and timber design. He also has an extensive background in foundation design, having engineered and tested a vast array of retaining wall and foundation types. Other project responsibilities have included hydraulic analysis, public involvement, special aesthetic design, bridge inspection, and agency coordination.
Dan’s combined experience with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the private sector encompasses strong design knowledge as well as client understanding. Dan’s ability to cross-train in numerous civil engineering arenas allows him to develop solid solutions for difficult problems, taking ideas from other disciplines that may not ordinarily be used to solve the solution at hand.

“Engineering is the art of modelling materials we do not wholly understand, into shapes we cannot precisely analyze so as to withstand forces we cannot properly assess, in such a way that the public has no reason to suspect the extent of our ignorance.” Dr. AR Dykes
Apart from enjoying the humor of this quote, it is a reminder to me that the most valuable asset of a good engineer is his own judgement.
